So, not sure if our local news has made its way into your algorithm - but we're seeing this story being disseminated and have to comment.
A 17-year-old cisgender girl saw an older trans woman changing in the locker room at a YMCA in Santee, CA.{link}sorry about the source-just one w/o a paywall
This incident is being politicized on a national level, broadcast on F*x News - and as lez1234 was found in La Mesa, CA and our sibling dykult crash landed in El Cajon, CA - this literally happened in our terrestrial backyard.
Below is the article we were pointed to by multiple meme pages on instagram and we're also seeing this story spread across twitter.
The virality of this story is what has us so concerned.
We've seen the far right narrow their scopes on the trans community and mainstream social media peddling incendiary transphobic rhetoric.
We know this is part of what made the Colorado Springs shooter fixate their hate on our community. <--something we have so much to say about we haven't been able to articulate it<---
content warning: agressive misgendering
link- while we don't know who in the KUSI newsroom wrote this with their second-grade writing skills, we do know the owner of this local news station is consistently one of the biggest donors to local conservative politicians across San Diego County - many of whom are concentrated in "East County" as we call it(which includes Santee, La Mesa and El Cajon)- California Trump country, known regionally and nationally as a hotbed for white supremacy. {link}{link}{link}
Many of our users grew up in east county, it's what inspired us to make this site together, so we can have a space as queer people even if it's in cyberspace. Our neighborhoods are changing and we're seeing a lot of resistance and anger - like so many parts of the country.
We literally don't feel comfortable going out in our "liberal" city because we see the target being placed on our backs.
We're so angry that we're being labeled groomers by an underage person who is literally being groomed as a political pawn for someone's profit. We're so angry that our safety means less than a soundbite for these political opportunists who live SO well exploiting people's unfounded fears.
We're the most angry at one of the loudest local voices [who's not even worth naming] trying to turn a trans woman getting dressed into some sort of peeping tom/flasher situation, who is literally an unelectable cisgender gay republican who's spent the past 20 years running for offices AND has been accused of exposing himself to and sexually assaulting multiple different individuals in bathrooms over the past decade. cw:sexual assault{link}{link}{link}The level of projection.
We're the most disappointed because, while we don't feel comfortable going out to the clubs anymore even though we want to support our friends and the artists who are queens and performers there...
We also know the owners of these clubs literally work with the aforementioned individual's partner to put on gay events, namely the parties during Pride weekend. So our community's celebrations literally fund this person's national platform to spread hatred. We're over it.
We see 'gays against groomers' sloppily trying to ride Trump's gravy train while throwing our trans siblings down on the tracks they're laying before it - intentionally steamrolling over all of us for their personal gains.
This is not a space for transphobia. We're tolerant people, but that will never be tolerated.
Not to be conspiratorial but not this obviously fabricated story coming from people who think victims of mass shootings are 'crisis actors' - we think this lil girl can take her tears back to Peter Pan Junior Theater.
We see the racism, the transphobia, the misogynoir underpinning this, but what we're also really seeing is white supremacists sweat because diversity - also know as reality - is getting a lil too close to home for them.
Y'all can't head for the hills, there is no place for your hatred in modern society.
We're not going to live in fear - we're queer, we're trans - we're here - get used to it. We LOVE to see our trans sister stand in her power and set the record straight.
We're just living - who's really grooming children here?
