Experimenting with watercolor

this looks great so far! the character looks familiar—is it celeste? i'm loving what you're doing with the flowing hair! and the expression here is so peaceful (〃￣︶￣)

i don't have much experience with watercolours myself—i've only ever used a watercolour brush pen with mixed media paper which, while fun, was not ideal for making full pieces. the one time i did try to make a full piece was for a school assignment years ago, and i have neither the art itself (left it behind when i moved out of the country) nor the working memory to detail the process. most of what i remember is mild frustration over teaching myself to layer the colours instead of applying full pigment immediately `(*>﹏<*)′ like nearly every other skill, of course, it became more intuitive as i practiced.

that being said, i really like how this coming along! if you're worried about the paper bending due to water intake, it might be good to apply masking tape to the edges of the paper and seal it against a table, though this might not be feasible if you're moving the art around a bunch (like in a classroom, as you said you're doing this in your drawing class). i have also heard of stretching the paper before use by soaking the paper and draining excess, but i've never tried it myself; i assume this wasn't done in the classroom since it might take a while for every student to soak their paper, but if you did do that, i'd love to hear about what that was like (^_^)

oh!!! haha, apologies for my unfamiliarity—this is making me want to pick the game up, i've had it sitting around on my computer untouched on my computer for so long o(*￣▽￣*)ブ but still, this is looking wonderful, you'd adapted the reference really well!!! i also love the little practice you did, the colour layering on the scarf is especially pleasing for me to look at. and the depth of the bigger piece's background and hair is great!! i'll be keeping an eye out for when you post it completed ヾ(^▽^*) thanks so much for sharing the update!

as for the paint-over with the fingers—assuming you see this before you next go into class, and if you don't, that's alright, there will be an eventual next time—you can take unpigmented water and brush it over the area you want to "erase," then dab at it with a paper towel repeatedly. it's not a perfect solution, since some pigment will still be left behind, but it does work.

this came out so well!! i'm pinning it to my mental fridge ╰(￣ω￣ｏ) i'm glad things worked out for the paint-over with the fingers, even if you ended up stumbling into a problem with her ear. also, i really like the colouring on the jacket and pants! while it may not be intentional, the colour grain on the pants reminds me a lot of outer space. all in all—gorgeous work, thank you for sharing it with us!
