A while ago I discovered a website - applerankings.com - which is dedicated to ranking apples. Sounds kinda lame, doesn't it? Well one glance at their roster and you'll bear witness to everything from "the civil Rights Apple" to "The Greatest Of All Time", and then back down to "A Forgettable College Friend" and "Long Island's Sand-Filled Condom." This is run by a true apple connoisseur.
Introduction aside, what are your thoughts on apples? Which is your favorite? Which one do you consider the most vile? Do you even like apples?
A majority of my life I've only been left with 3, maybe 4 choices of apple: Red delicious(they were... alright sometimes), Granny Smith(my personal favorite of these options), & Golden Delicious(So grainy, why did my brother ever choose these again??), with the rare Fuji (Personally, it's just Red Delicious but with a more soapy flavor & less bruises). Last week I picked up a bunch of Cosmic Crisps, ranked about 32 points of my beloved Granny Smiths - and they're SO DAMN DELICIOUS. Never have I had an apple this good. Though, they likely won't replace Grandma, as they're hard to find and a bit more pricey. (please excuse my apple rant )

ahh, apples! my go-to grocery stores in texas actually had a chart they'd put up around apple season—i went and found a photo online from one of their locations: (something tells me that some of the apples being paraded here aren't quite what they're cracked up to be... i'd like to give a big thank you to applerankings for enlightening me on apples i used to wish i could try and now know aren't worth the effort, haha) i've had quite a few different apples in my time, since my grocery store had a tendency to rotate different kinds fairly often, but most often we'd get gala apples since they were about as accessible as the red delicious but much more palatable for our family. the second most common apple in our household would be honeycrisps. neither i nor my brother are a particularly big fan of tart apples, so we rarely partook in granny smiths or pink ladies. i'm almost positive i've had a jazz apple before, but i don't think i can recall its taste—same with the kiku. for a couple weeks in grade school, we had access to crabapples, and my mom would often joke about how she wanted me to eat three whole apples for lunch—then hand me a lunchbox with these tiny fruits packed inside ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ also, although this isn't technically an apple, i'm a HUGE fan of chinese pears (also called apple pears or asian pears). i'll say that i'm bringing them up cause they're shaped more like apples than the traditional pear shape, lmao. they're extremely juicy and have a much more satisfying texture than any pears i've had in america—growing up i always thought i hated pears because i didn't like their somewhat grainy texture and lack of satisfying crunch, but chinese pears have completely changed my mind. i'm lucky that they're simple enough to order online or walk 15 minutes to get since i live in china—i'd imagine they're expensive overseas, though in the same vein i'd have more trouble finding some of these apples at my local markets (i'll get you one day, cosmic crisps). thanks for sharing the site! i'm having a lot of fun reading these entries.

Wow another incredible thread. I am an Apple lover, what incredible fruit with a range flavors, sizes, shapes, colors, and just vibes. As a young stoner apples we're used a both a smoking device and a snack to eat when I was done to destroy the evidence lmao...the free red delicious they give in public schoools lmaooo but I've recently have be getting into Opal apples thanks to Veronica. I also have come across a few lemonade apples which are pleasant subtle tart and sweet. Granny Smiths are sacred, I love them with some caramel.
I will be on the search for these cosmic crips, we have a lot different groceries of various regions represented so I'll keep my eye out for special apples to try and def want to try to find a Chinese pear. I love pears! Probably more than Apples...but pressed apple juice is elixir of gods and hot apple cider is damn goood!!! I love Apples thank you for sharing this link and inspiring my pondering of this wonderful diverse fruit.
