ok, really important post time. buckle the fuckle up. this might be strangely worded, but i need people to know about this NOW.
in the USA right now, theres a bill that the supreme court are trying to pass, called the "kids online safety act", or KOSA for short. this bills supposed intent is to protect young people online from things like cyberbullying, online grooming, sociak media addictions, and other reasonable concerns. however, this bill would have dire effects. let me explain;
There is an article on the heritage foundation, about how big tech is turning children trans. a crock of shit, i know, but there is one important thing in that article to point out. in the section where they point out how to stop this issue, they bring up this (and i quote);
"Another step in the right direction would be to prohibit the sexual exploitation of minors and the promotion of content that poses risks to minors’ physical and mental health (which the Kids Online Safety Act would do). If we seek to protect kids online, we must guard against the harms of sexual and transgender content."
yup, KOSA would do its damndest to get trans content off the internet. things like ao3, tumblr, wattpad, character ai, and lez1234 could potentially get wiped clean off the face of the earth. if your site was registered in the USA, this bill will apply to you.
the people behind the bill tried to pass it last year, but werent able to, as over 100 LGBTQ+ organizations spoke up against it. so, they reworded a couple small phrases, and handed it back in. and, for some reason, this time around theres barely any pushback. hell, they managed to get lizzo, one of the few proud lgbt ally celebrities, rallying behind this bill! and Dove! and so many other important companies and celebrities, that people will blindly follow without hesitation!!
now, i myself am unable to do much except spread the word about this genuinely awful bill. im below legal voting age, i dont live in america, but so many things and people that matter to me are. if you can, im begging you, vote agzinst it. call your local senators, tell them you dont under any circumstances suport this bill, create uproar. do ANYTHING. stand against KOSA, however you can.
